Hello All! After moving and spending the last two days meeting church leaders, walking the neighborhood of Gikondo in search of local community leaders and meeting one (I tried my best to remember to hold my right elbow with my left hand when shaking hands, out of respect)...I have finally had a little time at the clinic (center/project). Today, I helped an orthopedic officer serial cast 2 children with club foot, while one mother brought her breast out to soothe her child. I have also been learning more about the schooling of Physical Therapists here (the only PT program in all of Rwanda opened in 1998 and is in Kigali) and the needs of the these therapists and their patients.
Also, I tried so hard to explain in French and Kinyarwanda that I wanted to cook with the household help in my guesthouse (Didi), but to no avail. Dinner was finished cooking by the time I returned home (just next door to the center).
So...Didi, Gerard (the guard), and I, sat for a nice meal.
An updated address for me:

Jules,

It is erev Rosh Hashanah and we are thinking of you and wishing you a happy, healthy 5766. We had the Newmans (and Jennie) for dinner. The Bargers (Linda, Don and Austin) stopped by later for dessert. They all send their love and good wishes. I gave Austin the blog website so don't be surprised if you hear from him soon.

It's about midnight and we're waiting for Jennie to return from picking up Jonathan at the airport. Wanted to at least say hello to him before I crashed for the night!

It was great to talk to you yestserday. You sounded so much better. I'm sure your "adjustment" will continue to progress at record speed. We look forward to getting the next installment when we call Sunday night.

Love,
Mom

Hi Jules,

I just wanted to wish you a happy new year. I hope your experience in Africa will be all that you dreamed of. I will be atoning to you in my thoughts since atoning on the blog seems a bit impersonal. Anyways, my next project is to find a phone card and call you in the next couple of weeks. Hope all is well. Lots of love, Laurie

Jules! So great to hear you are doing well and finding your way around. Also SO cool to get a text message from Rawanda...what?! I never got one from you in SF :)

I am missing you here but excited for your adventures. My greatest adventure includes a 10 mile run next weekend on a healing groin...nothing much else beyond that aside from the same old work drama.

Holidays have been nice so and spent Rosh Hashanah day w/ Allie. It was great catching up with her. I am taking over responsibility for hosting a break fast next week. Happy to have a year off from attoning -- but in case you were wondering, I forgive any transgressions (although, as usual, I can't think of any).

Miss you and glad you are doing well. Thanks for keeping us updated and connected.

Hi Jules --- me again! It was great to talk to you this afternoon (or evening, your time). Just wanted to ask you if your mailing address has a postal code (the international equivalent of a zipcode)?

Love,
Mom

Hi Jules!
I don't have much time before school but I wanted to say hi! What amazing work you are doing! I love reading your updates...
Anyhow, nothing new here, and certainly nothing as exciting as you have to say. Just wanted to say I was thinking of you, and I hope your trip and your work is everything you had hoped it would be.
Love you,
Kassi
